The Brief
David Lewis needeed a site that would showcase the beautiful, heirloom quality furniture he builds from his shop in Essex, Vermont. He already had a great logo and studio-quality photos, but a hastily assembled SquareSpace site was hurting his SEO and conversion percentages.
The Approach
I identified three major areas of potential improvement from Dave's old site: speed, accessibility and mobile compatibility. Most of Dave's images from his SquareSpace site were over 1MB and were slowing down his page load considerably. I reduced file sizes by converting images to WEBP format and using lazy load functionality. I also removed low contrast text colors to improve accessibility and built a fast mobile menu. Implementation of fancybox galleries made excellent use of Dave's high quality images of his beautiful work.
